Harbi commends WB efforts in Sudan

(SUNA)-Minister of Agriculture and Forests Dr. Al-Tahir Ismail Harbi received, Wednesday morning at the ministry’s Hall, the World Bank representative in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry, Eng. Abdel-Rahman Abel Rahim.

The Minister hailed the efforts of the World Bank in Sudan pointing out that Sudan is rich with natural resources including, minerals and ground water. He added that FAO plays big role in the country but he said, the wrong policies adopted by former regime led to displacement of rural areas population and resettled in urban areas.

Undersecretary of the Ministry noted there are some projects funded by organizations, including Nuba Mountains, South Gedarf, South Blue Nile and Jebel Mara agricultural projects.

However, he said these projects deteriorated by former regime policies.

The world Bank representative, pointed out that the Bank, provided more than US$2.billions distributed among ministries of agriculture, health, Irrigation, Federal Government and Investment for establishing pilot projects, improving livelihoods and developing agriculture in rural areas.
