A women's group in Australia on Wednesday donated five oxygen concentrators and assorted personal protective equipment (PPE) to help boost the Covid-19 fight at the main hospital in Jonglei State capital, Bor on Wednesday.

Bor State Hospital has been run without the life-saving equipment since the Covid-19 outbreak was reported in the country nearly a year ago.

Speaking during the handover of the equipment in Bor, Michael Ayuen, the group’s coordinator, said the women who are from Bor were prompted to donate by the alarming Covid-19 cases.

“Bor women in Australia under the leadership of Tereza Akuc Gai were greatly moved and heartbroken by the suffering of our people. So they had to put their heads together and generate something,' Ayuen said.

He added, “These machines were imported from the UK and they cost 7,000 dollars while PPEs cost them 9,00 dollars.”

For her part, Atong Kuol, the state health minister, welcomed the donation, saying it will help in the Covid-19 fight.

Meanwhile, Antipas Nyok, the state deputy governor, said several lives have been lost to Covid-19 due to the lack of oxygen concentrators at the hospital, but once the donated equipment becomes operational, more lives will be saved.
