Minister of Energy and Petroleum: Efforts to Establish Large Power Stations

Khartoum, Mar. 20 (SUNA) – The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Jadain Ali Obeid, announced that work is progressing to establish new large electricity power stations.

He said in a press conference Saturday at SUNA news forum that the generation of Garri station will increase to 354 MW instead of 155 megawatts, the current power generation, indicating that an increase will be made in the Rossaires Dam of electricity production to reach 290 megawatts, instead of the current generation of 180 megawatts.

Jadain explained that the Merowe Dam is designed to produce 1250 megawatts, and that the current production by 600 megawatts and will be increased to 800 megawatts.

The minister indicated that the generation of Khartoum North Thermal Power Station will be increased to 155 megawatts instead of the current 75 megawatts, while the production of Khartoum North Gas Station will be increased by 10 MW from the current 90 MW.

He stated that Um Dabaker Station is designed to produce 500 megawatts, and currently producing 290 megawatts, referring to the expected increase of 150 megawatts, adding that the Setet Dam is designed to generate 320 megawatts and that the current production is 25 megawatts.
